Psi Iota Xi celebrates the 2021 Elementary School Collection for Food For The Hungry

Monday, 11/22/21 was an exciting day for members of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. The collections at elementary schools across Knox County were picked up and brought to a warehouse at Blubaugh Body & Frame.

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with members of Psi Iota Xi about this incredible project to support the Knox County Food For The Hungry Drive. Sandra Fithian, Carolyn Douglass, Elaine Ambrosiani, and Debbie Ruggles shared their passion for community service. They also shared their excitement about getting our youth involved in serving others.

Marcy also had the chance to chat with the “Food Pickup Guys” – Jerry Scott, Dave Ewart, Kevin Mishey and John Feltman. These gentlemen volunteer each year to pick up the food from all the elementary schools. They talk about how important it is to be a volunteer and the value of having kids involved in community service.

The totals for the 2021 Psi Iota Xi Elementary School Collection will be announced during the annual Food For The Hungry Broadcast on Saturday, December 10th. The top student collectors will also be recognized on this broadcast.

Food For The Hungry celebrates the 2020 Elementary School Collection

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with several volunteers with Food For The Hungry about this year’s Elementary School Collection. All schools in Knox County participated in collecting food and funds to support our campaign.

The Psi Iota Xi Elementary School Collection to benefit Food For The Hungry is happening this week!

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Sandra Fithian of Psi Iota Xi about their involvement with Food For The Hungry.

The sorority coordinates the Elementary School collection for all Knox County Schools.
The collection is happening this week – 11/16 – 11/20!

Sandra shares details of the collection, the Top 10 Food Items needed at the local food pantries and how the classes across the county are competing.
The top contributing class in each school (12 total) will win a pizza party that includes pizza, drinks and delivery TO their classroom! The top student collectors in each school will be part of the Food For The Hungry broadcast on 12/11.

The Elementary School Food has been collected for Food For The Hungry

During the week of 11/18, all Knox County Elementary schools participated in a collection of donations to benefit Food For The Hungry.

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Sandra Fithian and Vikki Eley from Psi Iota Xi and Linda Owens from Delta Kappa Gamma about the Elementary School Food Collection. She also talks with Capt. Christine Moretz and Amber Brady from the MV Salvation Army and Joy Harris from Interchurch Social Services. They share their reactions to seeing 9 palllets of food! Marcy also talks with Louie Blubaugh and Jerry Scott, the two gentlemen that helped collect the food and get it ready to be delivered to local food pantries.

Elementary Schools in Knox County collect donations for Food For The Hungry

The annual Elementary School Collection to benefit Food For The Hungry kicks off today, 11/18/19.

The Elementary Schools around Knox County show their support of Food For The Hungry

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart had a chance to see NINE food pallets stacked with food from local elementary school collections. She visited a warehouse at Blubaugh Body & Frame to see the result of generous gifts from kids in our community.

Elementary Schools are collecting donations for Knox County’s Food For The Hungry

Elementary students all across Knox County are currently collecting donations for Knox County’s Food For The Hungry Drive. Collections are happening this week in Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown and Mount Vernon.
WNZR’s Lilly Buckley talked with the 3 ladies that are coordinating these collections around the community.
Linda Owens from the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority is coordinating the Greater Knox County Elementary Collection.
Sandra Fithian and Cindi Doolittle are coordinating the Central Knox County Elementary Collection.

Knox County Elementary Schools collect for Food For The Hungry!

All elementary schools around the county collected donations for Food For The Hungry last week. On Monday, 11/20, the collections were gathered into a storage building at Blubaugh Body & Frame. WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with representatives from two local sororities about their involvement in this collection.

Psi Iota Xi coordinated the collection in the Mount Vernon elementary schools, at St. Vincent DePaul and at the Mount Vernon middle school.

Delta Kappa Gamma coordinated the collection in the greater Knox County area, covering elementary schools in Centerburg, Fredericktown, Danville and East Knox. They also coordinated efforts at the Knox Learning Center.

Knox County Elementary students collect donations for Food For The Hungry.

Marcy Rinehart had a chance to see the food collected from the Mount Vernon Elementary schools. It was picked up and delivered to Blubaugh Body and Frame on Monday 11/21/16. The 14 pallets of food will stay in a storage building until it is delivered to the food pantries on Saturday 12/10.
These donations will support the Knox County Food For The Hungry drive and be distributed to families through the Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services.
Marcy talked with the collection coordinators: Sonja Smith from Delta Kappa Gamma and Cindi Doolittle from Psi Iota Xi. She also talked with Salvation Army Lt. Brandon Gonzalez-Cottrell and Food For The Hungry Coordinator, Lisa Mazzari about this collection.
