Good Samaritan Day

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ā€œTeacher,ā€ he asked, ā€œwhat must I do to inherit eternal life?ā€

Ā ā€œWhat is written in the Law?ā€Ā he replied.Ā ā€œHow do you read it?ā€

He answered, ā€œā€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’;Ā and, ā€˜Love your neighbor as yourself.’ā€

ā€œYou have answered correctly,ā€Ā Jesus replied.Ā ā€œDo this and you will live.ā€

But he wanted to justify himself,Ā so he asked Jesus, ā€œAnd who is my neighbor?ā€

Ā In reply Jesus said:Ā ā€œA man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.Ā A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.Ā So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.Ā But a Samaritan,Ā as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.Ā He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.Ā The next day he took out two denariiĀ and gave them to the innkeeper. ā€˜Look after him,’ he said, ā€˜and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

ā€œWhich of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?ā€

The expert in the law replied, ā€œThe one who had mercy on him.ā€

Jesus told him,Ā ā€œGo and do likewise.ā€

Luke 10: 25-37

Feeling Lost? Turn to God!

When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered,Ā I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.Ā Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.Ā You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.Ā Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.Ā My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73: 21-26Ā
