Irma

Many families in the United States are facing hard times. Hurricanes, fires and other disasters are making life very difficult for many people.
So what do we do in hard times? How do we have faith?

We found a list of encouraging bible verses for times of trial.
(from www.biblestudytools.com) Jesus tells us that we will have troubles in this world, it’s a guarantee. However, He also promises that we have victory through our faith because Jesus Christ has overcome the world. If you are facing hard and uncertain times, you can be encouraged to press on knowing that you are an overcomer! Use the below Bible verses about having faith in hard times to lift your spirits and to share with others questioning God’s goodness.

Click HERE to see the list.

How do we encourage kids in their faith journey? Especially when they face hard times? Or have questions about disasters in our world?
We found some wonderful insight from www.focusonthefamily.com

Meet the Team – NAMI/Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition

suicide prevention 5k 2017-01959x539

For WNZR’s Meet the Team feature this week, we shine the spotlight on the Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition. This group is partnering with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to bring awareness to our community during National Suicide Prevention Week.

Did you know?
– Every 12.3 minutes, an American dies by suicide.
– Nearly 43,000 Americans die by suicide every year.
– In the U.S., death by suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for people of all ages.
– Each person’s death by suicide intimately affects at least 6 other people, with over 250,000 newly bereaved each year.
– From 1995 – 2016, 121 Knox Countians have died by suicide and several thousand friends and family members lives were changed forever by losing those they loved.
– 90% of those who die by suicide had a diagnosable psychiatric disorder at the time of their death. Many of those individuals who died never received effective behavioral health services because of the stigma surrounding such disorders and the risk of suicidality that further traumatizes survivors of suicide.

The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Knox County is comprised of representatives of behavioral health organizations, state agencies, healthcare agencies and hospitals, law enforcement, first responders, related nonprofit service organizations, survivors and other interested citizens. This group is dedicated to reducing the frequency of suicide attempts, threats and deaths, and the pain for those affected by suicide deaths. They create educational programs, intervention services, community resources and bereavement services.

They are also hosting a 5K Walk/Run this Saturday, 9/16. Click HERE for more information on how to participate.

WNZR’s Jenna Potts talked with several team members. Click HERE to hear her conversation with Dodie Melvin, Executive Director of NAMI; David McElroy, Detective with the Mount Vernon Police Department and Kathy Wantland, 5K Walk/Run Coordinator.

Daily disciplines

One study found that couples who shared the same faith, and who regularly attended church services together, reported a higher level of marital satisfaction. And when couples shared religious practices at home, their level of marital satisfaction was even higher (focusonthefamily.com).

Weekly fellowship

Weekly fellowship makes Christian friendships available to your marriage — people committed to building you up through offering encouragement, worshipping in a community, growing spiritually, and helping to strengthen your marriage (focusonthefamily.com).

Annual service adventure

An annual service adventure can help you experience Christ in a new way and can breathe life into your relationship with each other as it intensifies your spiritual intimacy (focusonthefamily.com).

For our Morning Thing Fave 5 we found five Bible Verses to help you on your marriage journey.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?”

Ephesians 5:25-33: “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, …”

Matthew 19:4-6 He answered,  “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said,’Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Colossians 3:14: “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Forgiving, It’s hard but necessary

HandsForgiveness

Forgiving is something that we all struggle with, whether it is asking for forgiveness or forgiving someone, we all struggle.  Focus on the Family talks about how we can have two perspectives on humans in relation to forgiveness.  The Utopian perspective perceives people as perfect beings corrupted by society, whereas the redemption perspective sees us a beings with sin nature that only be can saved by God.  Those who side with redemption will find that forgiving others easier because the understand sin nature means that people make mistakes.

The full article goes on to cover being real when having a conversation about forgiveness, forgiving family members, and living style that shows gratefulness for your forgiveness.  If you would like to give it a read, click HERE.

We also shared some Bible verses that talk about Forgiveness because the Bible is a great source for Wisdom.  The full list can be found HERE.
