Updates on Mount Vernon Police Department including the swearing in of 3 new officers and the arrival of the new Community Advocate.
Goals for the month of December – finishing up several construction projects, creating punch cards (final check lists for the contractors) for about 8-9 projects, meeting with department heads to discuss goals and budgets and launching new web videos with a new marketing message for the city. Mount Vernon’s NEW tagline is “An innovative community, authentically hometown”.
Mayor Starr talked about his big goals for the city in 2022. He wants to look at the organizational structure for the city. He wants to restructure the utilities and engineering departments.
We also shared details about some community events happening as we wrap up November and head into December. Mayor Starr shares with how to stay connected with community updates and events. He also talks about how people can pray for him and his team.
WNZR’s Wesley Boston talked with John Chidester of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County about their annual Food For Fines campaign. They talked about the legacy of this collection and how it is so important to partner together to meet the needs in our community.

Monday, 11/22/21 was an exciting day for members of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. The collections at elementary schools across Knox County were picked up and brought to a warehouse at Blubaugh Body & Frame.
WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with members of Psi Iota Xi about this incredible project to support the Knox County Food For The Hungry Drive. Sandra Fithian, Carolyn Douglass, Elaine Ambrosiani, and Debbie Ruggles shared their passion for community service. They also shared their excitement about getting our youth involved in serving others.
Marcy also had the chance to chat with the “Food Pickup Guys” – Jerry Scott, Dave Ewart, Kevin Mishey and John Feltman. These gentlemen volunteer each year to pick up the food from all the elementary schools. They talk about how important it is to be a volunteer and the value of having kids involved in community service.
The totals for the 2021 Psi Iota Xi Elementary School Collection will be announced during the annual Food For The Hungry Broadcast on Saturday, December 10th. The top student collectors will also be recognized on this broadcast.
