Beating Doubt and Beating Cancer

Relay for Life

Today on the Morning Thing, we shined our Meet the Team Spotlight on the American Cancer Society as they gear up for Relay for Life for Knox County. Click HERE to hear the conversation. Fundraising continues through August and Relay for Life is June 15. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Knox County kicks off its new fundraising season on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 6-8 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Grand Hotel at 12 Public Square in Mount Vernon. The community is invited to come out and learn more about the Relay For Life movement and how they can help the American Cancer Society (ACS) attack cancer from every angle. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness.

We also talked about how to beat the little voice in your head that prevents you from success. We talked about only giving this voice 30 minutes a week, replacing the negative thoughts with positive ones, and defending yourself like you would a friend.

National-Plan-for-Vacation-Day-Last-Tuesday-in-January-1

The last Tuesday in January is National Plan for Vacation Day. This day reminds us to plan our vacation at the start of the year for the rest of the year. The early bird gets to pack their bags and fly away to a little fun and relaxation!

This day also reminds us to actually TAKE that vacation. Each year, Americans leave more than 600 million vacation days unused. So…start the planning process today!

Here are three easy steps from www.nationaldaycalendar.com to make it happen:

  1. Determine how much time off you earn.Look up the number of vacation days you earn by checking with your finance or HR team. Don’t forget to make a note of any office closures.
  2. Coordinate calendars.Use Project: Time Off’s vacation planning tool to plot out your year—enter the number of days you earn, put your vacation dreams on the calendar, and use your custom link to get your family and friends involved in the planning.
  3. Share your plans.Once you have your days determined, use the calendar to export your plans to Outlook, Gmail, or other electronic calendars to share with your boss, co-workers, and family.
