Would you like to have a more balanced life?

Most of us would answer YES to this question.
January is “Get a balanced Life” Month. Today, The Morning Thing shared some incredible insight on this topic from imom.com

Janelle shared 3 work/life tips that actually work! She said that she learned a lesson the hard way from a coworker’s note that she left for her on her desk one day. It had just four words — “Leave some for home.”  (ouch) Click HERE to read Janelle’s 3 tips.

Dana Hall McCain also shared an article about balance. She says that having it all, and having it stress-free is just not reality.  Reducing the sense of conflict may depend more on accepting and making peace with the realities of two-career families (or working single-parent families) than on striving to juggle it all seamlessly. Dana shared 4 Myths of Work-Life Balance. Click HERE to gain more insight.

The pace of life can make every day seem like a blur of going here, going there, and trying to get a million things done in the time you do have. Lauren Dungy shares on imom.com that we all need to really think about what’s most important to our family.

It’s ‘Get Organized’ Month!

Today on the show we talked about how to get organized in the New Year!

We found some really simple tips from thirtyhandmadedays.com. Here are some of our favorites:

  1.  Plan Out Your Cleaning Schedule:
Cleaning?  One of my least favorite words.  I know there are people out there at clean to relax.  I wish that was me.  Sadly it’s not.  But I feel so much better when my house is clean.  On Facebook I shared a complex cleaning schedule and heard back from a lot of people that there was no way that they could keep up with it.  I came up with my own simplified version. I’m a visual learner so having something in front of me, checking things off majorly helps.  You can take these guidelines and use it how it best fits your family.
  2.  Make a binder to organize all the things:  Just when you think there are no more binders to make (is that even possible?), I put together this all inclusive binder.  They both have a ton of useful information and will make the new year ridiculously organized.
  3. Pull out the crockpot and make freezer meals:
If you have a crazy afternoon/evening schedule crockpots can be a life saver.  They can help you get your home organized and eating healthier.  They also make you feel less stressed because once they are done, you just throw them in the slow cooker and do what you need to do.
  4.  Pack Your Lunch:
Have you heard? Packing lunches aren’t just for kids.  With a whole post of delicious recipes, tips and resources, you’ll have a whole new love for taking lunch to work or making it at home.

It’s Soup Month!

Whether we like it or not, the weather is starting to get colder and colder. Today we shared to perfect way to fight off the cold, it’s time for some soup!

January is Soup Month! Wanna know some of the history behind the holiday?

Historical evidence of the existence of soup dates all the way back to about 20,000 B.C. Boiling was not a common cooking technique until the invention of a waterproofed container, which started out as clay vessels. Animal Hides and watertight baskets were used along with heated rocks. The word soup itself derives from the French word soupe which means soup or broth. The word restaurant was first used in France, around the 16th century, to refer to a highly concentrated, inexpensive soup, sold by street vendors, that was advertised as an antidote to physical exhaustion. Super cool!

So, since it’s Soup Month so we are sharing some our favorite recipes with you!

Rachel’s favorite soup is Cheesy Potato Soup, because she LOVES cheese and potatoes. Check out the recipe here!

Marcy loves to make Vegetable Soup, but with canned chicken! Add some to this recipe!

Rachel also shared about the first time she had gumbo in Houston, Texas! Check out a similar recipe to what she had here!
