2019 Sale Of Champions Broadcast on WNZR

WNZR is honored to bring you the 2019 Sale of Champions Broadcast from the Knox County Fair.

The 2019 Knox County Junior Fair Sales brought in a total of $789,280.75

  • Dairy Product brought in $3,810.
  • Sale of Champions (including the Dairy Product) total was $74,765.50.

(The individual sale totals below include the amounts collected from the grand and reserve champions).

The Swine Sale had a total of 177 hogs up for sale.  The total from the swine sale was $212,020.50
*The Grand Champion hog (and heavy weight division champion) was shown by Brock Stute of Mount Vernon. John Hinderer Honda purchased the hog at $23.00 a pound bringing a total price of $6,325.00
*The Reserve Champion hog was shown by Bryer Boeshart of Danville and sold for $15.00 per pound and was purchased by First Knox National Bank.  The total price was $4,170.00

The Market Beef Sale brought in a total of $117,012.05
*The Grand Champion Market Beef Steer was shown by Ethan Staley from Fredericktown. Beheler Excavating made the purchase at $3.00 a pound for a total price of $4,011.00
*The Reserve Champion Market Beef Steer was shown by Cassidy Small from Fredericktown.
Small’s Sand and Gravel purchased the animal for $6.00 a pound for a total price of $7,404.00

The Market Dairy Sale brought in a total of $67,726.00
*The Grand Champion Market Dairy Steer was shown by Amanda Annett from Utica. John Hinderer Honda made the purchase at $4.25 a pound for a total price of $6,281.50
*The Reserve Champion Market Dairy Steer was shown by Taylynn Morningstar from Howard. The Birch Family purchased the animal for $3.75 a pound for a total price of $5,070.00

The Dairy Market Feeder Sale had a total of $116,355.65
*The Grand Champion Dairy Market Feeder was shown by Amanda Annett of Utica.
Small’s Asphalt and Paving purchased the animal for $6.75 per pound bringing a total price of $4,279.50
*The Reserve Champion was shown by Alex Annett of Utica. Loudonville Farmer Equity purchased the animal for $6.00 per pound for a total of $3,264.00

The Beef Feeders brought in a total of $19,266.25

The Lamb Sale had a total of $25,965.50
*The Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by Mason Reynolds of Mount Vernon.
United Producers of Bucyrus and Mount Vernon purchased the animal at $15.00 a pound bringing a total price of $2,130.00
*The Reserve Champion Market Lamb was shown by Aiden Anderson of Centerburg.
Southeastern Equipment Company purchased the animal at $13.00 per pound for a total of $1,807.00

The Grand Champion Pen of 3 market lambs was shown by Caleb McKee of Gambier.
John Hinderer Honda purchased the animal for $8.50 per pound for a total of $3,323.50.

The Reserve Champion Pen was shown by Chesnee Fairall of Centerburg.
Huff’s Fine Jewelry was the buyer at $5.00 a pound for a total of $1,715.00.

The Market Goat Sale had a total of $80,276.00
*The Grand Champion market goat was shown by Bryer Boeshart of Danville. Riverside Recovery bought the animal for $56.00 per pound for a price of $4,984.00.
*The Reserve Champion market goat was shown by Bryer Boeshart of Danville. Beheler Excavating was the buyer at $40.00 a pound for a total of $3,640.00.

The Broiler (Chicken) Sale total was $53,075.00
*The Grand Champion broilers (pen of 3) was shown by Alice Ulrey of Utica. Conard Hill Farms bought the animals for $2,000.00
*The Reserve Champion broilers were shown by Wade Mickley of Danville. State Representative Rick Carfagna was the buyer at $1,700.00.

The Turkey Sale total was $13,350.00
*The Grand Champion Turkey was shown by Rachel Wilson of Danville. John Hinderer Honda purchased the animal for $1,700.00.
*The Reserve Champion Turkey was shown by Macey Gage of Butler. Andrew Brenner of the Ohio State Senate was the buyer at $1,400.00.

The Rabbit Sale total was $74,875.00
*The Grand Champion rabbit (Market Fryers) was shown by Justin Zollars of Mount Vernon and was purchased by Alumni Roofing Company for a total price of $3,750.00.
*The Reserve Champion rabbit was shown by Peyton Freitag of Butler and was purchased by Alumni Roofing Company for a total price of $2,000.00

Showman of Showmen Competition:
*Grand Champion – Ellie Kidwell (who won the Beef Showman award)
*Reserve Champion – Emily Dunn (who won the Draft Horse Showman award)

Junior Fair Hall of Fame Inductee – Rick Reynolds
Rick is the Head Weigh Master of the Knox County Fair. He secures people to run the scales. He is involved in the resale of animals. He helps secure transportation of animals off the fairgrounds after the sale. He is a true behind the scenes person that has been involved in the Junior Fair Sales for many years. Rick has 3 sons that showed and sold animals at the Knox County Fair. He also currently serves as the Head Weigh Master for the Lamb Program at the Ohio State Fair.

The David Greer Scholarship is presented each year by the Kiwanis Club. This award honors Mr. Greer and his long time service to the community and the Junior Fair. This year’s recipient is Sean Magers from Howard. The scholarship is $500.00

 

Sightseeing with Sutyak: Jr. Fair Sale Day

Hunter Sutyak continued his journey of experiencing his first Knox County Fair. He learned A LOT today, because the focus of today was on the Jr. Fair Sales at the Knox County Fair! The Morning thing crew had the opportunity to talk to multiple people involved with different aspects of Sale Day.

On Wednesday’s show (7/24), we introduced Hunter to well known landmarks on the fairgrounds. He learned a lot about the history of the grounds and how it got to where they are today.

This week, The Morning Thing has a special feature in honor of Knox County Fair Week – Sightseeing with Sutyak.
Hunter is a self-proclaimed “City Boy”.
Rachel and Marcy decided to give him an education on the fair and what makes it so special.

For Monday’s Show, our focus was on ANIMALS.
So, on Sunday, Hunter went to multiple barns to visit with 4H Kids, meet animals and learn more about the amazing animals that spend a week on our fairgrounds.
