Exciting things are happening in Mount Vernon as the Christmas Season approaches! Winter in Downtown starts Saturday and you and your family can enjoy holiday fun throughout the end of November and all of December.
WNZR had the opportunity to speak with Lacey Filkins, Executive Director of Experience Mount Vernon, about everything happening with Winter in Downtown. She provided updates on Shop Small Saturday, the Lighting of the Public Square, The Mount Vernon Holiday Parade, Festival of Lights and more! You can hear the entire conversation HERE.

Tim Stickle, the Chairman of Revive Ohio: Knox County, shares details of their upcoming outreach event this Saturday. He gives us insight about why events like these are important, and how churches can host one.
Join them on Saturday, November 26th, at 8:30am as they go out and pray with people in our community – loving, listening, and sharing the Good News.
The meeting will be held at the First Church of God at 10 Pine St, Mt. Vernon Ohio in the gymnasium (the last building)

The event will be held Thanksgiving morning on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Registration is at 8am. The race starts at 9am.
You are asked to bring a donation for Food For The Hungry as your registration fee.
Over the past 11 years, We Run MV has collected over 6,442 food items and $10,609 in donations!
Scott shares the group’s passion behind this event and how each dollar makes a huge difference.
On average each year, this event has 166 participants and raises $965 and 586 food items.
The members of We Run MV hope to beat that average this year.

Almost every holiday involves spending time with family in some capacity, but for Thanksgiving it is all the more in focus. The holiday revolves around everyone coming together to share a meal and, well, give thanks. However, despite Thanksgiving gatherings often being large affairs, it is surprisingly easy to unintentionally avoid spending any real time with most of the people in attendance. It is habitual for many of us to split along generational lines and hang out only with the people that are closest to us in age and interest. Even then the conversation may stay surface level and no real bonding occur.
This Thanksgiving, we want to encourage you to connect with as many family members and friends as you can. Enjoy the time with them, it is a blessing from God! To help you, we are sharing suggestions from Crosswalk to help you engage in bonding regularly with your family to make it easier to do so on the Big Day, as well as ideas for those out of the ordinary gatherings like Thanksgiving. If you’re making dinner for your family’s Thanksgiving, you’re probably starting to think about how you’re going to handle the meal on Thanksgiving. This morning, we shared some advice that can help make your Thanksgiving go smoothly. Maddy Sweitzer-Lammé of All Recipes says to think of Thanksgiving as a two-day holiday: use your Wednesday for the cooking, and Thursday for enjoying the food and your family and friends that helped make dinner with you.
There are many Thanksgiving dinner foods that you can make on Wednesday, including your stuffing, pies, and mashed potatoes and gravy. You can also decorate and set your table on Wednesday too! There are only two things that she say’s not to prepare: turkey (because it might dry out) and salad (it could be soggy). But, if you prepare ahead of time, you’ll have time Thursday to make a fresh turkey and salad!

Food For The Hungry is underway once more in Knox County, and WNZR is excited to share news of the incredible efforts to raise food and funds for the community. We had the opportunity to speak with Sandra Fithian of Psi Iota Xi about the sorority’s involvement with this year’s Elementary School Collection.
It is amazing to see the youth of Knox County get involved in helping their neighbors. WNZR is so excited to see the results of the collections this week.
