What Holds You Back From Spiritual Discipline?

Spiritual disciplines like prayer, reading your Bible, fasting, and supporting and going to church are great ways to further your relationship with Jesus. Unfortunately, many things may get in the way of practicing them regularly. Understanding what those barriers are in your life can help you knock them down and improve your walk with Christ.

Got the Monday Blues? Read this blog and be encouraged!

On The Morning Thing today (8/29), we shared encouragement to help you fight the Monday Blues.

Click HERE to find 10 bible verses that will encourage you and strengthen you as you face a new day and a new week!

We also shared a list of what you should remember when you whole day seems to go wrong. Great advice from The Positivity Blog.

1. There is a brand new day tomorrow.

Just because this day or the last week didn’t go well doesn’t mean that there is not a brand new day tomorrow.

A day when you can start anew.

With taking action to move towards what you want, likely having a bit more luck and when it will be easier to see that this difficult time is only temporary and not permanent (even if it might feel that way right now).

2. I’ve handled tough situations in the past.

When you’re standing in the middle of things going wrong then you might get a bit panicky. And lose faith in yourself and your abilities.

Then look to the past for a bit of strength and confidence in what you can do.

Doing this helps me to feel like I am standing on firmer ground again.

And sometimes I can even find a solution I used for another challenge in the past that I can reuse or readjust to get me out of this situation too.

3. What is going well in my life though?

It’s very easy to get stuck in focusing on the negative things and so they drag you further and further down into self-criticism and negativity.

But don’t forget that there are still things that are going well in your life. It may be small things. Or things you often take for granted like a roof over your head, clean water or three steady meals every day.

I find that zooming out in this way helps me a lot to snap out of destructive thought patterns and to feel more level-headed again.

Have a good Monday and week ahead!

Handling Kids’ Complaints About Going to School: The Morning Thing Wraps Up Back to School Week!

It has been an incredible week on the Morning Thing as we cheered on Knox County students for their return to the class room. While it is an exciting time, it is also a busy and stressful time for students. Most parents will hear some complaints from their kids over the next week or two. Whether the complaints and grievances that kids have are valid or not, it can be difficult to know how to respond, especially if you don’t know which is the case. Fortunately, there are resources available. On today’s show we shared some great advice from iMom.com on how to handle the seven most common back-to-school complaints. You can find the entire list HERE.

We hope this school year goes well for you and your kids, and be sure to check out all the resources and tips we shared on our blog earlier this week!
