Selling Stuff Online and Eating Healthy at Fairs: A few tips

sell-products-online

Let’s be honest, we all could stand to clean out our homes with a well-timed garage sale every now and then. But sometimes we not only don’t have the time to host a full scale garage sale for the entire neighborhood to visit, we also may not have the location to do it either. For those of us living in apartments or condos garage sales are a luxury for getting rid of stuff that we cannot partake in. That’s why on the Morning Thing today we turned to some advice form artofmanliness.com for tips on “How to Have a Garage Sale Without the Garage.” There are a lot of ways that you can make the most of the internet for turning a profit. But don’t forget that you can also donate some items. And truthfully, the trash can is a better location than the internet or local Goodwill for some of the stuff we’ve all got lying around. At any rate, you can find all the tips that we shared right here:

fair-food

We’re also full swing into Festival Season right now. That means we can enjoy rides, music, chances to win with WNZR (check out On the Road With Big Blue on wnzr.fm), and, of course, fair food. Listing off food items at the local fair makes one sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump- “There’s fried twinkies, fried candy bars, fried cheese, fried buckeyes, fried oreos, fried vegetables, fried cookie dough…” You name it and it will be fried at some point this summer. Add in all the sugar from the drinks and non-fried foods and you’ve got a rather intimidating calorie count. But it’s all so delicious!

That’s why we shared a few tips about how you can still enjoy the fair and the food at it, without going overboard and ending the day crying for penance on your treadmill. Check out the link below for the entire list. And remember the Golden Rule of Fair Food that we established on the show today: Limit and Share!

The Top Destination for Every State in the U.S.

This time of the year one can’t help but think about taking a nice vacation. But it can be tricky to find the right location. Where are the most enjoyable places? Where are the most unique and interesting? And are they good for kids?

If you are asking some of these questions, and even if you’re just curious about finding some new places to visit, you’re in luck. We on the Morning Thing found a comprehensive list- the one thing you must do in every single state. All 50 of them. Including Washington, DC. We got through most of them on the show this morning, but we wanted to share the complete list with you. It’s quite the mix, from fishing in Minnesota to walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, Massachusetts. And yes, the list is for kids too, with locations including a children’s museum and the number one zoo in the world.

So check it out! You’ll learn some great new places that you never would have known about otherwise. And if you go be sure to let us know how your experience was!

Being Intentional Every Single Day and Taking a Look at the Year 2000

Today on The Morning Thing we shared 10 tips for Being Intentional Every Single Day so that we can live for Him, make use of our time and prioritize the things that are important in our life.

Spending time with Jesus is super important to our lives and to our faith so that we can build up that relationship and be more clear about the things that He has planned for us.

Getting sleep and rest is also super important in helping us be intentional because when we are well rested, we are more focused and we are able to accomplish more with our time. “It is vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” ~Psalm 127:2

A full list of the 10 tips can be found here: http://intentionalbygrace.com/10-tips-for-being-intentional-every-single-day/

We also took a look back to the year 2000 as part of Wayback Wednesday! Did you know that the city of Gisbourne in New Zealand, was the first to ring in the Millennium? The way they’re positioned in the country, makes them the closest to the International Date Line making them the first city in the world to the sun every single day!

Also on May 2nd, President Bill Clinton announced that accurate GPS access would no longer be restricted to the United States military – which has been wonderful for us as we have been able to utilize GPS on those confusing highways and exits across America and the world. It’s weird to think that 15 years ago, we didn’t have things such as smartphones and GPS, but now it’s been integrated into our lives so much that we don’t even think twice about where we need to go.

And of course the 27th Summer Olympics happened in Sydney, Australia, where the USA won 97 medals – 40 of them being gold! Good job America!

Gardens and The Bible!

Hello! Thanks for visiting 🙂

Today on The Morning Thing we shared some interesting and surprising facts that you might not have known about your garden! Did you know that Deer (with a running start) can jump up to 8 feet? That means that if you have a fence or a hedge around some of your garden items, the deer might still have a way of being sneaky and munching on your precious flowers.

If you grow tomatoes, did you know that sprinkling a little baking soda on the soil can actually help to reduce acidity and sweeten up your crop!

And if you have hydrangeas in your garden, you can actually manipulate the color of them by altering with the pH balance in your soil! Adding more organic materials like egg shells and coffee grounds to the soil can eventually change a pinker bloom into a more blue bloom!

All of the surprising facts can be found right here: http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/gardening/tips/a32232/surprising-gardening-facts/

We also shared some bible verses to help you strengthen your relationship with God, to help you understand the power of faith over fear and worry, and to help you remember that God loves and cares for you.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phillippians 4:6-7

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

http://www.realsimple.com/holidays-entertaining/fathers-day-gift-ideas

We also shared our Fave 5 for the week of 6/15/15.

Here are our 5 favorite things about our Dads.

1. Wesley loves the example that his Dad has set for him and his family. He has shown Wesley what it means to truly be a man after God’s own heart. His Dad has also shown him how to love and respect those around him.

2. Annabelle loves that her Dad is very supportive and appreciates how he has always been there and encouraged her through all her dreams, goals and endeavors.

3. Miriam loves the work ethic that her Dad has shown throughout her life. She loves his ability to have fun and be spontaneous in any situation. He has always treated Miriam as his little princess and showered her with love and care.

4. Marcy’s Dad is her spiritual hero and mentor. She loves the godly example that her Dad sets for the entire family (including great grandchildren). She also loves her Dad’s love for life. Marcy’s Dad can find a positive silver lining in any situation, even if everyone else focuses on the negative.

5. We all love our Heavenly Father! We love that our God is constant, loving, merciful and forgiving. We love the care and guidance that He provides to our daily lives. Our true desire is to serve Him.

Happy Father’s Day from the Big Blue Crew at WNZR!

Congratulations to the Little Miss and Mister Turkey Contest Winners – Madysen Cochran and Corey Doyle.

For their contest, they had to create a poster with a turkey, show their best turkey impression, and tell what name they would give to a pet turkey. You can hear our chat with them after they were crowned winners!

This morning on The Morning Thing, we also talked about the app Jott that has been taking high schoolers and middle schoolers by storm across the country. It’s a messaging app that allows students within a closed network set up within their school to message one another without the need of wifi, or a data connection. It uses the phones bluetooth connection and the network allows one another to send messages to someone up to 100 ft from them. Is this a good app, or a bad app? It could distract students from their learning if not controlled properly, also students don’t need other peoples numbers to message them, because everyone is connected to the network via their social media. That means that anyone within the same network could contact anyone else in that network.

Here is the article that we read from to gain insight and information to this app: http://techcrunch.com/2015/06/08/messaging-app-jott-is-blowing-up-among-junior-high-and-high-schoolers/#.ldinxd:6SuF
