More changes for Kenyon’s 2020 Snowflake Gala

While Kenyon College had planned to present a recorded version of portions of its annual Snowflake Gala on Friday, December 4,in support of Food for the Hungry of Knox County, COVID-19 concerns have necessitated a change.  With several members of the gala’s committee now affected by the virus, recording of the program has been canceled in order to protect all participants.   

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Kathy Brechler, Director of Board Relations and Presidential Events at Kenyon College about how the Gala is moving forward, and donor contributions are adding up.

The 2020 Snowflake Gala Committee successfully launched efforts to solicit donations to Food for the Hungry from previous donors.  Thanks to the generosity of Karen Buchwald Wright and the Ariel Corporation, both individual and corporate contributions to this year’s gala are eligible for a dollar-for-dollar match, up to a maximum of $50,000. 
 
The committee will announce its total contributions and a list of donors this Friday at 5:00 p.m. on the Food for the Hungry website, www.foodforthehungrycares.org   Donations may still be made by logging on to kenyonsnowflakegala.godaddysites.com or by calling Jacob Doup of WRP CPAs at 740-397-0779.

A highlight of the Snowflake Gala each year is the presentation of the William A. Stroud Jr. Award for Community Service, bestowed annually for outstanding support of local causes, to “The People of Knox County.”  In the midst of these unprecedented times, the 2020 Snowflake Gala Committee decided to recognize not a single individual or family but the commitment of all Knox County citizens, businesses, and institutions to making sure their neighbors do not go hungry or without essential services.    

This year’s event, though different from its predecessors, will still serve as a key part of the 2020 Food for the Hungry fundraising campaign, which has a goal of $240,000.  All proceeds from campaign will benefit needy families and individuals right here in Knox County.

Tickets are now available for the Ninth Annual Snowflake Gala,
benefiting Knox County Food for the Hungry


On Friday, December 6, 2019, Kenyon College will host the Ninth Annual Snowflake Gala in support of Knox County Food for the Hungry.  The event will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the Kenyon Athletic Center’s Multi-Activity Court, which will be transformed for the occasion.  The evening’s program will conclude with a “fund-a-cause” auction, providing guests with opportunities to support both the food-gathering and social-service activities offered by Food for the Hungry.

Denise and Mark Ramser, Knox County volunteer leaders and philanthropists, will be recognized at the gala with the William A. Stroud Jr. Award for Community Service, presented annually for outstanding support of local charitable causes.  Chairpersons for this year’s event are longtime Food for the Hungry supporters Peggy and Dick Mavis.

The December 6 dinner, prepared by the skilled chefs of AVI Food Systems, will feature a buffet of gourmet Italian favorites, prepared with locally sourced ingredients, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

Tickets for the 2019 Snowflake Gala are priced at $100 per person, which includes a contribution to Food for the Hungry (the exact amount of which will be provided after the event for tax purposes).  Tickets may be reserved by calling Kenyon at 740-427-5111 or by visiting www.foodforthehungrycares.org, which offers online payment options.  Tickets must be purchased no later than Friday, November 22, 2019.

Chef Giulio is the Corporate Executive Chef that will be “auctioned off” during the gala for the private dinner! Here are some pics of Chef Giulio.

 

Chef Giulio Fattore, CEC

Chef Giulio Fattore is first generation as both parents immigrated from Italy. Giulio’s family is from the Abruzzo Province with his father is from Ripa Fagnano Alto and Mother from Pacentro, Italy.  Giulio started cooking at the age of 14. Giulio is a graduate of Macomb College Culinary School and has competed professionally in 15 hot food and cold food cooking competitions earing medals in all.  He has held positions at some of Detroit’s most prestigious Country Clubs and Hotels, Progressively working his way up from Cook to Executive Chef.  Giulio is a Certified Executive Chef, designated by the American Culinary Federation. Giulio has been with AVI Foodsystems for 15 years, majority of the time was as Campus Executive Chef at Wayne State University. Currently, Giulio is a Corporate Research and Development Chef for AVI concentrating on Brand Development, Creating Recipes and Culinary Training.
