Main Street Mount Vernon hosts July First Friday tonight!

Downtown Mount Vernon will be busy tonight with July’s First Friday celebration.

Main Street Mount Vernon raises money for the 2018 Christmas Parade and Walk

Thanks to everyone that attended the 2018 Christmas Parade Auction.
Main Street Mount Vernon hosted this event at Amato’s Woodfired Pizza.

This annual holiday tradition gives local business owners a chance to bid on parade entries. A total of $8,450 was raised to support the Mount Vernon Christmas Walk and Parade, which will be held on Sunday, 11/25/18 in downtown Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon celebrates Homecoming this week!

Homecoming is a special time. Mount Vernon High School is celebrating this week with a parade down South Main Street, a bonfire and a Homecoming spirit window display contest downtown. Mount Vernon businesses are competing in 4 categories: most creative, most spirited, overall winner and fan favorite.

Other activities include:

  • TaVaci Select Performers followed by the Uncorrections will provide music at the South Stage – MVNU’s Buchwald Plaza Gazebo.
  • A presentation for the winner of the local Guns vs. Hoses Blood Drive for the American Red Cross. This competition is between our local police and fire departments.
  • The American Red Cross will host a bloodmobile at City Hall.
  • A Hidden in Plain Sight event with KSAAT (Knox Substance Abuse Action Team) will take place at the Elks Lodge.
  • “Outside” – an exhibition by the Creative Art of Women (CAW) will be at MVNU’s Schnormeier Gallery. In this exhibition, CAW explores the external forces and exterior surfaces that make up the world- whether structural, anatomical, or metaphysical. Each artist wrestled with the theme of “OUTSIDE” through her own lens resulting in a diverse view of what makes up the world outside ourselves.
  • Show dates continue through 8/16.
  • Food vendors on the square

It is family fun at Mount Vernon’s First Friday presented by Main Street Mount Vernon – an Ohio Main Street program.

Traffic will be closed one block north of the Public Square, around the Square and on South Main Street down to Ohio Avenue starting at 4:30 p.m. (on Friday 8/4). (Gambier Street will remain open). – The America Red Cross Centennial (100th) Anniversary Celebration. Enjoy a slice of the anniversary cake on the Public Square. Pick up displays and information on the Red Cross at their table. Talk with current volunteers to learn more about our local American Red Cross of Knox County. Activities and giveaways will be available for kids.

– “Water Works” exhibit at MVNU’s Schnormeier Gallery. Artist Barry Gunderson imagines key moments of his life in relation to specific bodies of water and the metaphors that arise from each. The show continues until 6/23.

– Food vendors on the square
