Back To School Conversation Starters

Today Eddie flew solo, and discussed back to school conversation starters, and how to get more than just one word out of someone who is tired after a long day at school.  The key was to be specific but not too specific, and for examples we used these examples from imom.com.

We also had an interview with Camille and Haley Harris, who are performing a benifit concert for the film hit Back on Heroin.  It is happening this Saturday at the Gazebo at MVNU’s grove at 7:30PM.

It is LAZY DAY! How will you relax today? The Morning Thing 8/10/16

lazy-day1-e1435564956582-808x382

Today, August 10th is LAZY DAY! Yeah! It is a special day that you can celebrate without getting up from the sofa! Lazy Day is an ideal excuse to take a break and enjoy some precious “me” time, without feeling guilty about it.

Sit down and relax, or go back to bed for a nap. You could even mark the occasion by pampering yourself with a massage treatment or visit to a spa – if getting there doesn’t seem too much like hard work, that is.

The founders of Lazy Day aren’t known, possibly because they were too busy chilling out to keep a record of their efforts! However, their idea has caught on, with many people enjoying the chance to get away from everyday stress. So lie back on the couch, give your TV remote control some exercise, and enjoy a well-earned rest.

BUT…..if you are like us….you need some HELP in the relaxation department.
We found 5 ways you can unwind in 60 seconds! Click HERE to see the list.

We also found 40 ways to relax in 5 minutes or less. Click HERE and see what tip you can try today to relax.

Have fun in being lazy today! You have our permission.

Understanding Your Teen: The MT’s Guide to Slang

Have you ever wondered what in the world some of the words that your teens use mean?! Well today, we’re trying to help you!

Here are some of the words we decoded on the show:

  • Ship: Used as a verb, meaning you want 2 people to be in a relationship. Especially popular with fictional characters
  • TBH: An abbreviation of “to be honest”, can be used in everyday conversation when someone is giving their honest opinion about something. Someone could say “TBH, I don’t really like watching the Olympics”
  • Lowkey: A synonym for “kind of”, “slightly”, or “a little bit”. The opposite would be highkey, meaning “very” or “a lot”
  • Woke: Used in the phrase “stay woke”, which means to “stay alert” or “be ready”
  • Salty: When someone is upset or bitter about something
  • OTP: An abbreviation for “One True Pair”; two people who you think are meant to be together.
  • Basic: Ordinary or plain, can also mean like everyone else
  • Gucci: Means cool or good
  • Peep: To look at or listen to something, such as “You should peep this new song”
  • GOAT: An acronym for “Greatest Of All Time”, usually used to refer to a person
  • Slay: When someone succeeds at something amazing, or if they “killed it” at something. For example, you could say “Katie Ledecky slayed in the Olympics 400 meter swim”
  • Fangirl: Can be used to describe someone who is a really big fan of something. Can also be used as a verb when someone gets excited about whatever they are a fan of, such as “I’m fangirling over the new trailer for that movie”
  • Lit: When something is amazing or exciting

Hopefully that helps you understand your teens and their confusing language a little better! Be sure to let us know if there are any other terms we left out that your teens use!

Have a great week!

NEW uses for OLD things – The Morning Thing 8/4/16

Suitcase-Side-Table

Click HERE to see 45 of the ultimate best new uses for old things. It is a way to UP-cycle at your house.

If you have reused something old in your house. Let us know! We would love to share your ideas. Just email us a description and maybe a picture of your DIY (do it yourself) project. Our email address is wnzr@mvnu.edu

Think twice before you throw something away — it could be made into something even cooler. There are plenty of ways you can upcycle something old into something useful and entirely unrecognizable.

First impressions and watermelon!

Today wewatermelon

It’s National Watermelon Day! Doesn’t this salsa look great?  It’s actually a Watermelon Fire and Ice Salsa that Dan and I found on allrecipes.com (click here for the link).

Today in the 6:00 hour, we shared some tips on how to make a good first impression.  Here’s a summary:

  • be confident in who you are (this gives others confidence, too)
  • be calm and composed (if you’re nervous, they might be too)
  • be yourself (don’t try to be or act like someone you’re not; be honest)
  • develop approachable and friendly body language (like a smile and a firm handshake)
  • avoid fidgeting (especially with your phone)
  • relax (have good posture but don’t be stiff like a robot)

Here’s another link to an article about first impressions from Forbes magazine.

Thanks for listening!
