Mayor Starr gave a preview of his state of the City Address on Wednesday (3/26).
Mayor Starr talks about the listening tours for the new facilities and he overall reaction from the public, the happenings of Liberty Crossing, the major development on Newark Road, and other projects .
Mayor Starr also shares updates from Mount Vernon City Council, the City’s Safety Forces, gives his goals for April and some important events coming up in the next month.

WNZR’s Eric Brown Spoke to Haws and Company’s three authors: Ben, Catherine and Wilma Haws about their new book: “Hooray for Carnival Day: Give, Save, and Spend the Westwood Way.”

Catherine gives a quick synopsis of the book which follows some woodland creatures getting ready to go to a carnival and the challenges that come with spending money wisely.

She likes to go on hikes with her friends, watch TV and write books on the weekend. She likes to write mystery and romance.

Katie Ellis, Executive Director of the United Way of Knox County says the 2024 campaign which raises money for 2025 has raised $926, 423 which is a little short of their $1 million goal.
On the Morning Thing Friday, Eric spoke with Katie about their current campaign.

Katie says they will work with 20 different agencies around Knox County. They will receive about $635,000 of support. Last year the United Way about 25% of the population of the county.
Katie explains how the fundraising works for the United Way. Their current campaign ends in just a few days. Then they start raising money for 2026.
Katie adds that they have a new staff member and they recently welcomed new Program Coordinator Kristina Hagemann.
Time is running out to donate to this year’s campaign. The organization encourages the community to help reach the goal and continue supporting vital goals in the coming year.

Tim Hawkins is grateful to be coming to Mount Vernon Nazarene University for two shows on March 22nd. On the Morning Thing Thursday, Eric spoke to Tim about his career and the show.
