It’s PROM season! The Morning Thing has great advice for parents. 5/13/16

Can you believe that the average family spends $1,139 on prom?!
Prom has become the social highlight of the year for many Seniors.

Marcy and Aubrey shared a parent’s guide for high school prom. Moms and Dads – click HERE to find out how to survive this important event in your teen’s life. (We don’t support all material on this website. The tips for parents from Cheryl Butler, Mighty Mommy are good.)

We also shared some tips for Prom Safety. Click HERE and be ready to talk about staying safe on this important night.

To join in the celebration, Aubrey and Marcy wanted to share their Prom pictures. Aubrey went to Prom during her Senior Year (Class of 2013).
Marcy was lucky enough to attend Prom all four years of high school (1984 – 1987).
Enjoy this blast from the past!

Mothers-Day-images-2016

For our Fave 5 this week, we are sharing what we LOVE about out Moms.

Click HERE to hear from our Morning Thing co-hosts: Marcy Rinehart, Wesley Boston, Jessica Wells, Dan Monnin and Eddie Dilts.

We wish a Happy Mother’s Day to ALL Moms this Sunday. It is our prayer that families will be able to spend some time together on Sunday. Mom really doesn’t care about gifts, she just wants to SEE and TALK to her kids. DO something special on Sunday. Take Mom out to dinner, share memories, laugh and just have fun being together. Life is too busy, so slow down this weekend and spend some time to honor the woman who has sacrificed so much for you!

What does Mom really want for Mother’s Day?

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Mother’s day is coming on Sunday! Don’t forget! Don’t be like me, the one who forgot to wish his mom a happy birthday two years in a row. Yes, I really did that and yes, I am a horrible person.

Now that you have remembered that Mother’s Day is coming up you need to figure out what you are getting your mother. But how does one give back to the giver of life, the caretaker, the sacrificial bestower of love? How can one know what this wonderful woman really wants? Especially when she just smiles and says, “oh, sweetie, you don’t need to get me anything. Having you as a child is gift enough.” How typically unselfish and altruistic of mother.

But despite the lack of any expressions of desire for gifts all moms want something. We looked to parenting.com for some suggestions for what simple things to get mom for Mother’s Day.

  1. Time off.
  2. Sleep
  3. A Clean House
  4. Spa Day
  5. A Day Free from the “Mom Routine”
  6. Car Wash
  7. Home Delivery
  8. Complete the To-Do-Lists
  9. Prepare Dinner for a week
  10. Homemade treasures

Whatever you decide to do for your mom, make sure to let her know that you let her know you love her. That is what is truly important!

It’s Brothers and Sisters Day!

This morning I shared a story on the air about my sister. She is five years older than me and has always wished she had a younger sister. After all, being the only girl with two younger brothers can be quite aggravating. Our relationship got off to a rocky start when at age 5 she told her parents as they were leaving to go to the hospital to have me, “if it’s a girl then call. If it’s not, don’t bother.” She was incredibly excited when they called, only to be disappointed and upset when she discovered that they had called anyways despite her instructions. What a great start.

But our relationship hasn’t always been bad. Sure, she made me be the dog when she and my brother and I would play house, but we’re still close. That’s the beauty of siblings. Sure, there are times you want to disown them. Maybe even personally strangle them for that obnoxiously aggravating thing they always do that drives you up a wall. But despite those times you can still love them and be a close as, well, siblings.

So today we talked about Brothers and Sisters Day. This is your day to honor your siblings. Maybe you give them a call. Maybe you make amends about the latest disagreement between you. Maybe you hang out. Perhaps you can work together and make the recipe of the day, which is, weirdly, homemade ketchup. Whatever you do, remember that siblings are a blessing. Happy Brothers and Sisters Day!
