Foodstock is coming on Monday, 12/2

Chautauqua Foodstock brings tribute to Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks and the Rolling Stones – Knox County on Monday, December 2!

The Chautauqua Foodstock will be presented at the Knox County Memorial Theatre on Monday, December 2 at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6pm. This living history tribute concert will feature the highly requested return of Tom Petty with guest stars Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and headlining the concert is a tribute to The Rolling Stones.

Suggested cost of admission is one or more food items (visit www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org for donation suggestions) and/or a monetary donation (either give at the door or in collection during the performance). If you are unable to give, please still come and enjoy as a Christmas gift from the musicians of Knox County!

The Elementary School Food has been collected for Food For The Hungry

During the week of 11/18, all Knox County Elementary schools participated in a collection of donations to benefit Food For The Hungry.

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Sandra Fithian and Vikki Eley from Psi Iota Xi and Linda Owens from Delta Kappa Gamma about the Elementary School Food Collection. She also talks with Capt. Christine Moretz and Amber Brady from the MV Salvation Army and Joy Harris from Interchurch Social Services. They share their reactions to seeing 9 palllets of food! Marcy also talks with Louie Blubaugh and Jerry Scott, the two gentlemen that helped collect the food and get it ready to be delivered to local food pantries.

The 9th Annual Turkey Trot is coming on Thanksgiving morning!

Race starts at 9am
First place trophies will be given out to the first female, male and dog to pass over the finish line.

Central Ohio Technical College hosts the high school collection for Food For The Hungry

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with representatives from Central Ohio Technical College about the high school collections happening around Knox County. COTC has challenged local high schools to collect food and funds to support Food For The Hungry. Marcy talked with Shawn Dugan, Ambassador and Student at COTC and Nicole Thompson, Admissions Representative for COTC Knox Campus.

Here are the collection dates for Knox County High Schools:

* The Knox County Career Center started collecting on 11/14 and will continue to collect until 12/14.
They give out three pizza parties:
1.  Lab that brings in the most items overall
2. Lab that brings in the most food items (no cash)
3. Lab that brings in the most cash per person!
* Mount Vernon High School is collecting through this Saturday, 11/23
* Fredericktown High School will collect 12/9 – 12/13 with​ a competition between homerooms. The winning class will receive donuts. The National Honor Student is coordinating collections.
* Danville High School will collect donations from grades 6-12. The specific dates have not been confirmed yet. The National Honor Society will be running their collections. 
* Centerburg High School will collect donations from 12/3 – 12/6. 
* East Knox High School wrapped up their collection on Friday, 11/15. Stay tuned for final numbers. 
The goal for the 2019 high school campaign is to exceed last year’s numbers. In 2018, the students collected $6,615.85 and 3,753 food items. That equaled 3 truckloads of food!

The top collecting school in the city and in the county will be recognized with a traveling plaque sponsored by COTC to recognize the school accomplishment.

The Central Knox County Award will go to either Mount Vernon or the Knox County Career Center. The Greater Knox County Award will go to one of these schools: Centerburg, Danville, East Knox or Fredericktown. Each year, the winning school’s name will be added to the traveling plaque.

Cash donations are welcome. $1.00 = 4 food items.

One representative from each school will be invited to participate in the Food For The Hungry live broadcast on 12/14 at The Knox County Memorial Theatre.

This week, The Morning Thing is shining the spotlight on events to support Food For The Hungry. WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Jim Riggle, Principal at the Knox County Career Center. They talked about the Career Center’s involvement with the annual campaign. Jim shared news about student collections, the Open House and Spaghetti Dinner to benefit Food For The Hungry and the return of the online auction of themed baskets.

The Salvation Army kicks off the 2019 Red Kettle Campaign

Kettles are open from 11/18 – 11/28 at Rural King and Baker’s IGA.

On Friday after Thanksgiving, 11/29, there will be 5 kettles open around MV: Rural King, Baker’s IGA, Kroger, Walmart and People’s Bank of Marietta.
