WNZR’s Cougar Conversation today features freshman Peyton Heiss from the MVNU Men’s Basketball Team. He is from Plain City, Ohio.

Peyton started playing basketball at the age of 6. One of his favorite memories is learning the sport with his Dad as his coach. Their strong relationship was built during this special time in his life.

He plays guard/forward for the Cougars and is excited to join a team that plays hard every day.

Peyton talks about the RULECougar culture. He is learning how to put others before himself. RULE stands for Relentless Effort, Unbreakable Spirit, Servant Leadership and Competitive Excellence.

Rapid Fire reveals his favorite superhero, what is on his bucket list and what can instantly make his day better.

WNZR presents the October 2024 MVNU Presidential Update

Dr. Castleman shared his thoughts about how fall semester is going for MVNU.

We covered many topics including:

  • Exciting news about MVNU Stats Day, including an update on enrollment. 
  • MVNU Giving Day totals and how the donations will impact students and the overall campus. Dr. Castleman talked about the importance of each gift. You can give a gift at https://mvnu.edu/giving-day-3/ 
  • The closure of Eastern Nazarene College and how MVNU is responding and addressing the needs of those students. He also shares some stats of how many ENC students came to MVNU.
  • Recent transitions with University Advancement, Development and Alumni Relations. He announced the hiring of two new positions for MVNU – Chief Development Officer for the office of University Advancement and Executive Director of Enrollment Systems and Operations.
  • MVNU’s new Gateway Program. Dr. Castleman has prioritized strengthening church relations through this new initiative. MVNU will partner with churches, nonprofits and corporations to increase access to education.
  • He also shares his top priorities for MVNU in the month of October.
  • Dr. Carson Castleman highlights some exciting events coming up on his calendar and the MVNU calendar, including a trip to South Africa.
  • He shares special messages for MVNU students, faculty and staff.

MVNU launches the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

MVNU has launched the first doctoral level program – DNP, Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Debra Garee, DNP, RN, MVNU’s DNP Director and Associate Professor of Nursing stopped at WNZR to share about the new program.
She talked about the different concentrations within the DNP program and the length of the program.
Debra shared that courses are broken into 3 categories: DNP Foundational Courses, DNP Core Courses and Didactic and Clinical Courses.
She shared how to register for an informational session and find more information.
Debra also talked about how this powerful statement guides the program: Empowering Leaders, Enriching Souls: Transforming Healthcare Through Faith and Knowledge.

MVNU celebrates “Back to School” Night at September First Friday

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is excited to be part of September First Friday. Multiple departments will have informational tables set up on the public square. There will be hands-on, interactive activities for kids of all ages.

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with several faculty members about the exciting plans for First Friday.
They each shared about their roles at MVNU and what they were most excited about for fall semester. They also talked about the latest news from their departments.
