Chautauqua Foodstock brings tribute to Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks and the Rolling Stones – Knox County on Monday, December 2!

The Chautauqua Foodstock will be presented at the Knox County Memorial Theatre on Monday, December 2 at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6pm. This living history tribute concert will feature the highly requested return of Tom Petty with guest stars Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and headlining the concert is a tribute to The Rolling Stones.
Suggested cost of admission is one or more food items (visit www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org for donation suggestions) and/or a monetary donation (either give at the door or in collection during the performance). During the week of 11/18, all Knox County Elementary schools participated in a collection of donations to benefit Food For The Hungry.
WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Sandra Fithian and Vikki Eley from Psi Iota Xi and Linda Owens from Delta Kappa Gamma about the Elementary School Food Collection. She also talks with Capt. Christine Moretz and Amber Brady from the MV Salvation Army and Joy Harris from Interchurch Social Services. They share their reactions to seeing 9 palllets of food! Marcy also talks with Louie Blubaugh and Jerry Scott, the two gentlemen that helped collect the food and get it ready to be delivered to local food pantries.

COTC has challenged local high schools to collect food and funds to support Food For The Hungry. Marcy talked with Shawn Dugan, Ambassador and Student at COTC and Nicole Thompson, Admissions Representative for COTC Knox Campus.

Here are the collection dates for Knox County High Schools:
The top collecting school in the city and in the county will be recognized with a traveling plaque sponsored by COTC to recognize the school accomplishment.
The Central Knox County Award will go to either Mount Vernon or the Knox County Career Center. The Greater Knox County Award will go to one of these schools: Centerburg, Danville, East Knox or Fredericktown. Each year, the winning school’s name will be added to the traveling plaque.
Cash donations are welcome. $1.00 = 4 food items.
One representative from each school will be invited to participate in the Food For The Hungry live broadcast on 12/14 at The Knox County Memorial Theatre.

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is back with Food for Fines
The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, including its branch libraries in Fredericktown, Danville and Gambier, is sponsoring a “Food for Fines” campaign that runs until Saturday, Dec. 14. During this time, library fines may be paid with canned or boxed non-perishable food items equal to the value of the fine. Donations of food or money will be gratefully accepted.
Items that are at or near their expiration dates or in damaged or compromised containers will not be accepted. All collected food and money will be given to the Food For The Hungry drive, and donations from each community will stay in that local community. The Libraries cannot accept food in payment for lost or damaged items. In addition to food items, the library will accept Humane Society approved brands of pet food.
The Food for Fines collection started in 1989! This year marks the 31st year for this collection!
The Food for Fines collection happens in all branches – Mount Vernon, Danville, Fredericktown and Gambier. All food collected in those communities stay IN those communities to benefit families in need.

Tickets are now available for the Ninth Annual Snowflake Gala,
benefiting Knox County Food for the Hungry
On Friday, December 6, 2019, Kenyon College will host the Ninth Annual Snowflake Gala in support of Knox County Food for the Hungry. The event will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the Kenyon Athletic Center’s Multi-Activity Court, which will be transformed for the occasion. The evening’s program will conclude with a “fund-a-cause” auction, providing guests with opportunities to support both the food-gathering and social-service activities offered by Food for the Hungry.
Denise and Mark Ramser, Knox County volunteer leaders and philanthropists, will be recognized at the gala with the William A. Stroud Jr. Award for Community Service, presented annually for outstanding support of local charitable causes. Chairpersons for this year’s event are longtime Food for the Hungry supporters Peggy and Dick Mavis.
The December 6 dinner, prepared by the skilled chefs of AVI Food Systems, will feature a buffet of gourmet Italian favorites, prepared with locally sourced ingredients, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Tickets for the 2019 Snowflake Gala are priced at $100 per person, which includes a contribution to Food for the Hungry (the exact amount of which will be provided after the event for tax purposes). Tickets may be reserved by calling Kenyon at 740-427-5111 or by visiting www.foodforthehungrycares.org, which offers online payment options. Tickets must be purchased no later than Friday, November 22, 2019.
Proceeds from this annual event benefit needy families and individuals right here in Knox County. Chef Giulio Fattore is first generation as both parents immigrated from Italy. Giulio’s family is from the Abruzzo Province with his father is from Ripa Fagnano Alto and Mother from Pacentro, Italy. Giulio started cooking at the age of 14. Giulio is a graduate of Macomb College Culinary School and has competed professionally in 15 hot food and cold food cooking competitions earing medals in all. He has held positions at some of Detroit’s most prestigious Country Clubs and Hotels, Progressively working his way up from Cook to Executive Chef. Giulio is a Certified Executive Chef, designated by the American Culinary Federation. Giulio has been with AVI Foodsystems for 15 years, majority of the time was as Campus Executive Chef at Wayne State University. Currently, Giulio is a Corporate Research and Development Chef for AVI concentrating on Brand Development, Creating Recipes and Culinary Training.
