Mayor Matt Miller, of Ashland, Ohio, will be the keynote speaker. The Mount Vernon Police Chaplains have been serving our local police officers and other first responders since April 2018. During the breakfast, Judge Richard Wetzel will officially commission our chaplains as they continue serving those who serve us.

A special 9/11 Memorial Service is coming to MVNU

WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with 9/11 Event Coordinators, Dena Hess and Paul McNeal about the special 20th Anniversary Memorial Service coming to MVNU.
Dena is the Manager of the Woodward Opera House.
Paul is the Coordinator of MVNU Athletic Development.

September 2021 MVNU Presidential Update with Dr. Henry Spaulding

Dr. Spaulding shares updates on the new school year, MVNU’s approach to COVID-19, his goals for the upcoming school year, and construction updates. Dr. Spaulding also shared special messages for students, faculty, and staff.

MVNU made a change to the COVID policy at 6pm on 9/2/21.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University moved to an indoor mask mandate as of 6:00 last night.
MVNU says it implemented the protocol as they examined positivity rates, the number of students in quarantine, the severely contagious nature of the Delta variant, and the high infection rates at other colleges. MVNU hopes to slow the spread of the virus, limit the number of students placed in quarantine, and keep students in the classroom and on campus for the entire semester.
Face coverings will be required in all indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

September First Friday is tonight! WNZR talks with MV Downtown Manager, Anthony McNeal

The theme is “Back to School”. Anthony shared details about tonight’s activities, music performances, food choices, parking options and the news of a special presentation happening at 6pm.

Mount Vernon will honor three residents as 2021 Volunteers of the Year at the final First Friday of the year tonight. They are LJ Harry, Michael Percy and Trina Trainor.

LJ Harry has been a police chaplain since the inception of the Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains in 2018. Michael Percy is chair of the City’s Board of Zoning Appeals and serves as president of the Foundation Park Conservancy. Trina Trainor has been involved with the Mount Vernon Music & Arts Festival, where she serves as co-director and board secretary.

The city will honor this year’s volunteers at 6:00 tonight during a ceremony on the stage near the South Main Plaza’s Dog Fountain.

Tonight’s event features food, street vendors, live music by Black Gravy, Side Effects, and a performance by MTVarts. The city will close traffic a block north of Public Square, around the Square and on South Main Street down to the Ohio Avenue starting at 4:30 today.
