The Mount Vernon News Classified for Cans Challenge runs through Thursday, December 7th!

The Mount Vernon News “Classified for Cans” challenge is back this year. Anyone that will donate 10 cans will receive a coupon for $5 off a classified ad in the Mount Vernon News. The coupon is redeemable through 1/31/2018. Drop off your food donation to the Classified Ad Department during business hours (Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm).
Food donations will be accepted through Thursday, 12/7.

Outdated or damaged food items will not be accepted.
Coupons exclude classified display ads.

 

The Fredericktown Christmas Walk is this Saturday!

The 17th annual Fredericktown Christmas Walk is this Saturday, 12/2.
This fun family event is from 3pm – 7pm in downtown Fredericktown.

Come experience the spirit of what Christmas is all about!

The Walk Committee invites everyone to attend and mark the beginning of the Christmas season, while supporting local charities that provide food and financial services to area residents. All activities will support Food for the Hungry! All donations will help the work of Interchurch Social Services and the Salvation Army and all donations will stay in Fredericktown!

There is so much to see and do:

  • Annual Live Food For The Hungry Charity Auction at the Senior Citizen Building on the Square begins at 3pm
  • Santa will be seeing Children at the Gazebo
  • Gazebo tree lighting ceremony at 6
  • Ice Sculptures
  • Tractor pulled wagon rides around the Christmas light display at Stockman Park
  • Santa’s toy shop at the Masonic Lodge ( hot food too)
  • Poinsettia Sale
  • Crafts and Vendors and food at the First Presbyterian Church in the fellowship Hall
  • Crafts for Kids and the WNZR Photo Booth at the Baptist Church
  • Live musical groups
  • Visit the Historical Museum
  • The Fredericktown Merchant Association will provide special events throughout the afternoon
  • A collectable ornament of the Gazebo will be available for purchase at the Presbyterian Church
  • WNZR and the Big Blue Crew will be parked in front of the Fredericktown Village Office

Used Toy donations are needed for the Fredericktown Christmas Walk

Gently used toys are needed for Santa’s Toy Shop. They are looking for toys, board games, video game systems, sports equipment or any toy a child would love. *Stuffed animals are NOT accepted due to health regulations.*
Toys can be dropped off at the Fredericktown location of The First Knox National Bank, the Fredericktown library and Fredericktown Chevrolet.

Santa’s Toy Shop will take place in the Masonic Lodge during the Fredericktown Christmas Walk on Saturday, December 2nd from 3pm to 7pm. Call Aaron at (740) 501-0148 for more information.

Donations are needed for the Fredericktown Charity Auction

The Fredericktown community is preparing again to host the annual Christmas Walk and Charity Auction to benefit Food For The Hungry. The auction will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 3 p.m. in the Fredericktown Senior Center at 2 East Sandusky Street.
It is time to begin searching through basements, attics and homes for possible donations.

Some ideas for donations:

  • Gift Baskets
  • Gift Certificates from local business owners
  • Service Projects – such as truckload of wood, snow shoveling, hair styling, etc.
  • Baked goods in keepsake Christmas tins or plates.

Please donate quality items in good condition.

Families, friends, neighbors, churches, and organizations are encouraged to partner to create themed baskets, service offerings, and gift certificates to donate.

Donations can be dropped off at the Fredericktown Village office. If items need to be picked up, call Laurey or Dean Grogg 740-358-6846

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is proud to be a legacy partner in the Knox County Food For The Hungry Drive. The campus is busy with events to raise donations for this campaign. The students are also given many educational opportunities where they can learn about the issue of food insecurity and the needs of our local community.

The Knox County Career Center is busy collecting donations for Knox County’s Food For The Hungry campaign. They are also hosting 2 auctions to benefit this year’s drive. WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart had a chance to talk with Principal John Feltman about the Career Center’s commitment to our community.

Knox County Elementary Schools collect for Food For The Hungry!

All elementary schools around the county collected donations for Food For The Hungry last week. On Monday, 11/20, the collections were gathered into a storage building at Blubaugh Body & Frame. WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with representatives from two local sororities about their involvement in this collection.

Psi Iota Xi coordinated the collection in the Mount Vernon elementary schools, at St. Vincent DePaul and at the Mount Vernon middle school.

Delta Kappa Gamma coordinated the collection in the greater Knox County area, covering elementary schools in Centerburg, Fredericktown, Danville and East Knox. They also coordinated efforts at the Knox Learning Center.

Kenyon College hosts Gala Dinner and Auction to benefit Food For The Hungry

A special event is coming on Friday, December 1 to Kenyon College. The 7th annual Snowflake Gala Dinner Auction will be held in Gund Commons. The night includes a wonderful dinner featuring a buffet of locally sourced foods, a live fund-a-cause auction, plus live music and a special award. Jim and Maureen Buchwald are this year’s recipients of the William A. Stroud Award for Public Service. Chairpersons for the event are long-time Food For The Hungry supporters, Jan and Ken Reynolds.

The annual Knox County Food For The Hungry drive is underway. Two local sororities are coordinating collections with elementary schools around the county.
Delta Kappa Gamma is coordinating collections in elementary schools throughout Greater Knox County and with the Knox Learning Center. Psi Iota Xi is coordinating collections with the Mount Vernon elementary and middle schools.
