WNZR presents the March 2023 MVNU Presidential Update

MVNU’s President, Dr. Henry Spaulding, talked with The Morning Thing for his monthly Presidential Update.

Dr. Spaulding shared the news of his retirement as MVNU’s President. He talked about what led to his decision to retire. He also shared an update on his health.

Dr. Spaulding also talked about some of the accomplishments he is proud of in his time of service as President. He shared some details about the university’s plans for this time of transition.

Dr. Spaulding shared his highest priorities for MVNU in the second half of the spring semester.
He gave an update on the strategic initiatives and shared a highlight of MVNU’s calendar for March.

Dr. Spaulding also shared special messages for our MVNU students, faculty, and staff as they return from spring break.

WNZR’s Meet the Staff Monday with Traven Griffith

This week’s Meet the Staff Monday on WNZR features freshman, Traven Griffith.

Traven is from Mount Vernon. His major is Communication and Media (Digital Media).

Traven shares what brought him to MVNU and how he found his way to WNZR.

He shares some favorites including how being a DJ on WNZR is his favorite memory of freshman year. He also shares how he is using his media training to help his church on the weekends.

We also learn about Traven’s love of video editing and his interest in the film industry.

Comedy for a Cure returns to Knox County!

The Morning Thing shared some exciting news – Comedy for a Cure is back for 2023!
WNZR’s Marcy Rinehart talked with Donna Strosnider about this exciting event.
Donna shared the details of the event planned for Friday, April 21 at the Glenn A Gallagher Center.

Dr Amy Kovach brings Summer Camps to MVNU

Dr Amy Kovach, the new VP for Academic Affairs, is bringing summer camps to MVNU. The camps will be held July 10-14 and July 17-21.

The first session of camps, held July 10-14, will include:

-Criminal Investigations: Students work to solve a mystery
-Pre-Law: Work with the Criminal Investigations camp to hold a trial
-Environmental Science: Collect samples and test them
-Film Production: Make a film during the week
-Education: Plan lessons and implement them with students

The following camps will be offered at the second session July 17-21:
-Art Design: Practice bookmaking, drawing, and photography
-Emergency Preparedness: Learn how the pros handle and manage emergencies
-Engineering: Explore the different types of engineering
-Exercise Science: Great for students interested in personal training or physical therapy
-Nursing: Explore MVNU’s nursing simulator

These camps are perfect for students wanting to learn about the fields that they’re interested in before they go to college. The camps will immerse the students in college life and help them learn if college is for them.

Camps cost $485 for one week and $920 to go both weeks. The cost directly covers the cost to attend the camp, meals, and housing. Watch mvnu.edu for more details.
