WNZR celebrates Seniors Week with Hedi Colon

This week, The Morning Thing is shining the spotlight on our WNZR Seniors!

We have 8 graduating seniors on our Big Blue Crew.

On Tuesday, we shared a conversation with Hedi Colon.
Hedi is from Puerto Rico. He is graduating with a degree in Exercise Science. His minor is Sports Media.

Hedi shares how baseball brought him to MVNU and how he found his way to WNZR.
He has served on Video Team and enjoyed being part of the WNZR.TV Crew.

Hedi shares his favorite memories from both WNZR and MVNU.
His dream job is to own a facility for young athletes to get training in their chosen sport. He wants to be a light in the lives of young athletes.

Hedi asks that we pray for him as makes the tough decision to either stay in the USA or go home to Puerto Rico.

On Tuesday, we shared a conversation with Daniel Skrzypchak.
Daniel is from Elgin, Illinois. He is graduating with a degree in Communication and Media (Digital Media). His minors are Sports Media and Graphic Design.

Daniel shares how volleyball brought him to MVNU and how he found his way to WNZR.
He has shared his talents with our team on and off the air, including working for WNZR Video Team and helping with graphic design jobs.

Daniel shares his favorite memories from both WNZR and MVNU.
He will be returning this fall to finish a few credits and serve as an Assistant Coach for the MVNU Women’s Volleyball Team.

Henry also shares the exciting news about some awards that he received this semester. We congratulate him!
Henry asks for prayer for his future. He will be attending law school at Cleveland State University in the fall, working on his dream to become a lawyer.

What Is Joy?

Joy is more than an emotion. It’s much more deeper and significant than that! There are 9 truths about what joy is that will grow your faith. Joy does not depend on your circumstances, it gives you assurance that God is who he says he is. We also know that the joy of the Lord is strength, that we should count everything as joy, that joy comes in the morning, that we can reap joy. It’s also one of the fruits of the Spirit, and that joy is felt in Heaven too! Finally, you can ask God for joy because you are a child of God.

ADA Forms to benefit residents and first responders are coming to our community

Mount Vernon City Council Member, Amber Keener shared some exciting news with WNZR. The city of Mount Vernon and Knox County are adopting new Residential History ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) forms. These forms will be available for any local citizen that has a disability. The Knox County Ohio First Responders have created this form specifically to help them improve responses to calls. The form provides safety services with an advantage and information before they arrive on scene.
Councilwoman Amber Keener expressed her optimism for this new move by the county stating that she knows this form will help save lives in Mount Vernon and Knox County.

The form is voluntary to fill out and can be found online on the Mount Vernon city website under the documents tab and the Knox County website under the 911 tab. Requests for hard copies can also be made at MVPD and MVFD.

The information from the form will be submitted into the Knox Co. Emergency Dispatch CAD system for use by the Knox Co. dispatch team. The purpose of this form is to ensure that dispatchers and emergency response personnel are aware, in advance, of any information they would need to know about people with disabilities in the event of an emergency.

The Mount Vernon Police Department assured in a press conference on Tuesday morning that the information, which is sensitive due to the nature of the subject, will be completely secure. Keywords will be used over the radio calls made by emergency teams to ensure the safety and security of personal information.

Once the form is filled out and submitted, the info will be attached to both the name and address of the person who submitted it. If 911 receives an emergency call from this person or a call for that address, they will be able to send out the information securely to the emergency team responding to the call.

Councilwoman Amber Keener expressed her optimism for this new move by the county stating that she knows this form will help save lives in Mount Vernon and Knox County.

WNZR talks with New Directions as they prepare for two special events this Wednesday

WNZR’s Alyssa Sidle was honored to talk with Lauren Lochotzki, Sexual Assault and Campus Advocate for New Directions of Knox County.
She shared about the exciting updates of the organization’s move to a new building and how they are working with survivors of sexual assault.
Lauren shared the details of their upcoming “Break the Silence” events.

On Wednesday, 4/26 you will have two chances to hear from author, speaker and sexual abuse survivor, Nicole Braddock Bromley.
Nicole’s passion is to bring awareness and education on breaking the silence surrounding sexual abuse. Nicole’s message inspires hope, healing, and authenticity!
The first event will be for professional development and held from 1pm – 3pm at the Woodward Opera House Recital Hall.
The second event is open to the community at Centerburg Church of Christ from 6:30pm – 8pm.

WNZR’s Meet the Staff Monday with Noah Tucker

This week’s Meet the Staff Monday on WNZR features senior, Noah Tucker.

Noah is from Alexandria, Ohio. His major is Communication and Media (Digital Media).

Noah shares what brought him to MVNU and how he found his way to WNZR, through several changes to his major.

He shares some favorites including his favorite foods. He shares how his favorite part of being here at MVNU is meeting some amazing friends and playing Intramural Sports with them.

We also learn that Noah is related to the Wright Brothers! Noah has exciting plans for Spring 2024. He will be going to Los Angeles to study film!

At WNZR, we are honored to partner with many Knox County organizations to build a stronger community. We truly value our partnership with New Directions. On Friday, we shared the details of their upcoming “Break the Silence” events.

On Wednesday, 4/26 you will have two chances to hear from author, speaker and sexual abuse survivor, Nicole Braddock Bromley. On Friday, we talked with Nicole about how to find hope, healing, and authenticity. She shared how our stories matter and that we can be empowered to be a solution!

Nicole’s passion is to bring awareness and education on breaking the silence surrounding sexual abuse. Nicole’s message inspires hope, healing, and authenticity!
