New Directions hosts their annual Dinner and Celebration Benefit

New Directions, the Domestic Abuse Shelter and Rape Crisis Center of Knox County held their annual Dinner and Celebration Benefit on Thursday night, 4/11/19.

Executive Director, Lori Jones-Perkins shared how the money raised from this event will support the organization. She also shared some award winners and goals for 2019.

Several awards were given out.
Chloe Merriman, a Senior from Centerburg received the Volunteer Award for her exceptional service with TAC – the Teen Advisory Council. She has served with TAC for all 4 years of high school.

The Mary Hendrickson Award recognizes outstanding, long-term commitment to the organization and honors the late founder and director of New Directions. This year’s award was presented to Pat Keane, who has an extensive history with the organization and was part of the founding team that helped to create the outreach.

Lori shared that the top goal for New Directions in 2019 is ongoing community education.

WNZR will be at the Franklin United Brethren Church’s Easter Extravaganza!

This Saturday WNZR is going on the road to join the Franklin United Brethren Church in New Albany for their Easter Extravaganza!

The Easter Extravaganza is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be over 40 vendors inside and outside the church. Food and Drinks will also be available for purchase. The Easter Bunny will be there to take pictures with the kids. The first 50 kids to see the Easter Bunny will also get a stuffed bunny! There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. with over 300 filled eggs!

WNZR had a chance to talk with Pastor Mike Brown about the event. You can listen to that conversation HERE. The Franklin United Brethren Church is located at 7171 Central College Road in New Albany.

The NEW Knox County 4H Youth Activity Center is coming soon

The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, 4/10 for the new 4H Youth Activity Center. The new building will be located at 700 Perimeter Drive (next to the Fairgrounds).

WNZR’s Lilly Buckley talked with Mark Bennett,  4-H Planning Committee member about the construction schedule and how this new facility will enhance the experience 4H kids have here in Knox County.
